EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC announced today the recall of forward Wilmer Andres Cabrera from his loan by Colombian club Real Cartagena. In a secondary transaction, the young striker will join German club, Greifswalder FC via transfer.

Cabrera was originally loaned to Rio Grande Valley FC on March 3, 2023, marking his return to the USL Championship after a successful four-year collegiate career at Butler University.

Prior to entering the collegiate ranks, Cabrera made 30 appearances and scored four goals for the Toros as a USL Academy signing in 2018 and 2019 under the direction of Gerson Echeverry. He made his return to Rio Grande Valley FC, now under the direction of both, current Toros Director of Scouting and Assistant Coach Echeverry and Sporting Director and Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera.

The Colombian striker departs the Toros as the club's current scoring leader with seven (7) goals, three (3) assists in 25 appearances, logging 1,830 minutes.

"My time at RGV FC is one I will cherish forever, being able to go back to play with the club for a second time was amazing, " said Wilmer Andres. "Playing for my father was a dream I have always had and I am thankful I was able to achieve it these past couple of months."

The young striker went on to add, "I wouldn't have grown into the player that I am now if it wasn't for the coaching staff and my teammates. To the club, I wish you the best the rest of the way and am eternally grateful to the fans who proudly shared the joy of being a Toro with me."
