Williamsport beats Dayton 4-3 after comeback scare

Williamsport, PA - The Williamsport Outlaws survived a determined comeback attempt by the Dayton Demonz on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Matt Smyth put Williamsport up 4-1 in the third period, but Dayton pulled to within one on Luke Flicek's tally 19:39 into the third period.

The Outlaws were led by Robert Sich, who had one goal. Sich scored 17:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Williamsport. Kevin Hamel picked up the assist.

The Demonz were unable to stop Williamsport from sending pucks towards the net, and the Outlaws eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Williamsport additionally got points from Jeff Winchester, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Smyth, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chris Leveille also scored for Williamsport. More assists for Williamsport came via Trevor Karasiewicz and Brett Needham, who contributed one a piece.

Dayton managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. The Demonz wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Dayton was held below its usual level of production. The Demonz average 6.1 goals per game. The 47 shots that Dayton put on net surpassed the Demonz's average of 37.6 shots per game this season.

Dayton also got a goal from Lucas Schott as well. In addition, Dayton received assists from Brayden Metz, Ahmed Mahfouz, Mike Hoban, Nicholas Petriello, and Brian Marks, who each chipped in one.

Chris Whitley recorded 44 saves for Williamsport. The Outlaws incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jeff Rose rejected 37 shots on goal for Dayton. The Demonz registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Dayton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ty Ariss was ejected from the game.
