Williams, Thunder win

Rockford Thunder News Release

Houston, Texas--Texas Thunder decided to take a different approach to game three against the Canadian National Team. The team still pulled out the victory with a final score of 1-0, but Thunder plated the first run in the bottom of the third instead of waiting until the seventh to pull out the dramatic win.

Behind a complete game shutout with only two hits and six strike outs from Christa Williams, Thunder not only took the series from Canada, but they also claimed their third consecutive series win.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the third as third baseman Clare Burnum reached first on a walk. With one out, second baseman Lindsay Gardner followed with a grounder to the pitcher. Team Canada pitcher, Danielle Lawrie, overthrew first base that allowed Burnum to score. Gardner's base running savvy distracted the defenders to help Burnum. However, Gardner was tagged for an out during the run down between first and second base. Thunder closed out the inning with the one and only run and that would be all Williams needed to hold off Canada.

Texas Thunder will take on Team Canada for game four, Sunday, July 24 at 1:00 p.m. to see if they can claim their third consecutive series sweep.
