Valley Blue Sox News Release
Holyoke, MA - Nathan Williams got his first start as a Blue Sox on Sunday night against NECBL-necomer Ocean State Waves and threw a gem.
Williams (1-0) finished the game going seven innings allowing only two hits while walking four and striking out three.
Connor Kelly (0-1) took the loss for the Waves lasting just three innings surrendering four runs on five hits.
But it was errors that the Blue Sox (2-1) capitalized on that led to the victory. Leading 1-0 in the second inning Brendan Hendriks and Justin Morhardt scored on errors, extending Holyoke's lead to 3-0.
The Blue Sox would score in each of the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead.
With the pitching of Williams, the Ocean State Waves (1-1) could never get anything going as the Blue Sox would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning to secure the 6-0 victory.
It marked the first shutout win for the Blue Sox this season as they improve to 2-0 on the road.
Holyoke is back in action on Wednesday as it travels to Keene to take on the Swamp Bats. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
