EX-Blue Sox Perez Makes MLB Debut

Former Holyoke Blue Sox Juan Perez made his Major League debut on Saturday for the San Francisco Giants.
Perez started in center field and hit seventh as the Giants took on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Perez finished the game going 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Perez became the sixth NECBL alumnus to make his Big League debut in 2013. He is the 36th graduate to play in the Major Leagues this season and the 93rd alum overall to play in The Show.
Perez, who primarily played outfield in his Minor League career but saw substantial time at second and short this season, also becomes the fourth Holyoke product to reach the Big Leagues.
A product of Western Oklahoma State Junior College via the Bronx, Perez made 10 starts for the 2008 Blue Sox, hitting .235 with a homer and stealing five bases. Another member of that Blue Sox, infielder Stephen Lombardozzi, currently suits up for the Washington Nationals.
In 2008, Perez posted one of the greatest seasons in junior college history, hitting .465 with 37 homers and 102 RBI. He was selected by the Giants in the 13th round of the 2008 Draft.
Perez was a South Atlantic League All-Star in 2009 and a California League All-Star in 2010. Two weeks prior to his call up Perez, who was slugging .507 and had a dozen steals at Triple-A Fresno, was honored as the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week.
In 568 Minor League games, Perez legged out 30 triples and swiped 87 bases.
