(Wilkes-Barre, PA) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are honored to announce that the City of Wilkes-Barre's Mayor, Thomas M. Leighton, proclaimed at noon today that August 9, 2007, is "Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers Day".
Since playing their first game at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza in 2002 the Pioneers are having their best season to date. Their 2007 regular season record was 14-2 and they won their first playoff game last Saturday night versus the Tri-Cities Fever 57-54. In addition, Head Coach Rich Ingold has set a new arenafootball2 league record by having the most coaching victories in league history.
The Pioneers will face off against the Central Valley Coyotes this Saturday night beginning at 7p.m. at the Wachovia Arena. With a win the team will host the American Conference Championship on Saturday, August 18, 2007.
