Wildcats to Host "Pink the Rink" in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - For the fourth-consecutive year, the Wichita Falls Wildcats are supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the fight against breast cancer.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Wildcat players will wear limited-edition pink jerseys during Saturday's "Pink at the Rink" game against the Odessa Jackalopes. All jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, with the proceeds going to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
"This is a cause I am very passionate about," said Roy Davoult of the Wildcats' ownership group. "I lost both my mother and sister to cancer, so this event is something that I hold true and dear to my heart. I am pleased that we are able to support a great organization like Komen for the Cure."
This year's jerseys are two-tone pink with white trim around the collar, sleeves and chest. They feature a modified version of the Wildcat's logo with pink accents and were designed by Chris Ceransky, one of the Wildcats' assistant coaches.
"This is the first fundraising game that I've been involved in since losing my grandmother to cancer two years ago," said Ceransky. "She was a big hockey fan, and I thought this was a good way to honor her memory."
The Wildcats have also painted the ice pink ahead of both of this weekend's games against Odessa, marking the first time the Kay Yeager Coliseum has seen its ice surface painted pink.
Fans will have an opportunity to view the pink ice surface prior to this weekend's games with the return of the Wildcats' "Hockey in Heels" event, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
Sponsored by Flowers by the Basketcase, the event is geared towards female fans, and features a player meet-and-greet and a course in hockey basics for those newer to the sport. All event attendees receive a free ticket to Saturday's contest, plus vouchers for discounted tickets for family members.
Founded in 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has become a worldwide leader in the fight against breast cancer, and is the only breast cancer organization attacking the disease on all fronts: in research, community outreach, education, advocacy and global work.
