Wildcats Split Weekend Series with Topeka

October 29, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats faced off this weekend against the Topeka Roadrunners for the second time this season. They played both Friday and Saturday night and went 1-1, picking up two points in the weekend series. The Wildcats are still sitting in first place in the NAHL South Division with twenty-five points; they currently have an eight point lead over the second place Ice Dogs. Luke Salazar and Adam Cardwell are still the top two leading scorers in the league; each has twenty five points.

Topeka came into the KYC on Friday night looking to redeem themselves after falling to the Wildcats twice last time they visited Wichita Falls. Topeka scored the lone goal of the first period and the Cats trailed by one after twenty minutes of play. Sean McKenzie tied the game at the 11:23 mark of the second frame on a powerplay goal. The assists came from Krefski and Skylur Jameson. Topeka scored a powerplay goal of their own 9:13 into the final stanza, but the Cats would not be let down. Less than five minutes after Topeka's second goal, the Wildcats went on another powerplay. Salazar and Cardwell assisted Jake Watchorn who put the puck between the pipes, scoring his first goal of the season and once again tying the game. The game winning goal for the Cats came with less than two minutes left in the game. Just when one might think the game was headed into overtime, Krefski was able to get into position and blast the puck past the Roadrunners goalie to win the game for the Cats. The assists on the Cats third goal came from Skylur Jameson and Adam Sponseller. The Wildcats skated away with the 3-2 victory and improved their record to 12-2-1.

The Wildcats came out on Saturday night looking to improve on their four game winning streak, but the bounces just weren't going their way. The Wildcats defense and goalie, Mike Jarboe, were on top of their game, turning away thirty-five of the Roadrunners thirty-seven shots. After forty minutes of play the Cats were down 2-0; Topeka had scored one goal in each of the first two periods. At the 11:18 mark of the final frame the Cats were able to connect and put one in the back of the net. Javorek and Brown assisted Tosunian, who scored for the Cats and put them within one goal of Topeka. It proved to be not enough though as the Wildcats were unable to put another one in before the final buzzer and fell short 2-1.

The Wildcats next home game is Saturday, November 3 against the Texas Tornado. Puck drops at 7pm. It is also our Police and Firefighter Appreciation Night. Please call the Wildcats office at 940-716-5587 for details.
