
Wildcats Skate Away with 3-0 Victory

The Wildcats hit the ice on Friday night to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears. It was the Cats lone game of the weekend and they skated away with the 3-0 victory. The Wildcats continue to lead the NAHL South Division while Kenai River holds the worst record in the league. After picking up the win and two more points in the standings, the Cats lead the division with fifty-eight points and continue to hold a six point lead over both Fairbanks and Topeka. Adam Cardwell and Luke Salazar lead the league in scoring. Cardwell has seventy points and Salazar has sixty-four points.
Cardwell got the scoring started on Friday night when he put the puck between the pipes only 1:36 into the game. The assists on Cardwell's goal came from Salazar and Everett. The Wildcats second goal of the game came with less than thirty seconds remaining in the first period. Salazar and Morrell assisted McKenzie who took advantage of his position and blasted the puck past the Kenai River goalie to give the Cats a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. The second period remained scoreless by both teams. The Wildcats blasted the Brown Bears goal with eleven shots but were unable to capitalize. The lone goal of the third period was scored period was scored at the 15:20 mark by Luke Salazar. Cardwell and Kaneshiro assisted Salazar on the Wildcats third goal. Backup goaltender, Peter Emery, saved all of Kenai River's twenty-two shots for his first NAHL shutout.
The Wildcats next home game is Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9 against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Puck drops at 7:05pm! Friday is Kids T-Shirt Night, courtesy of Perkins Custom Doors.
