
Wildcats drop a pair

The Wichita Falls Wildcats played two games over the weekend, hosting the Springfield Spirit on Saturday in Wichita Falls, and playing at the Texas Tornado on Sunday. The Wildcats lost each match, falling 4-3 to the Spirit on Saturday, and losing 8-3 to the Tornado on Saturday.
The Wildcats record fell to 10-11-2 on the season.
The Spirit came to town on United Regional Health Care Systems Game Night. The Wildcats out shot the Spirit 28-23, but gave up two power play goals in the losing effort. The Spirit struck first, scoring a power play goal two minutes into the game. Brent Sarcone answered for the Wildcats, scoring his first of two goals to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was assisted by Chad Costello and Skylur Jameson.
The Spirit added two more goals in a row, one of them coming on a power play, to go up 3-1 in the second period. Brent Sarcone added another goal to bring the Wildcats within one goal with the score 3-2. The goal was assisted by Jack Wolgemuth and Chad Costello.
The Spirit scored again in the third period leaving the Wildcats down 4-2 with time running out. The âCats pulled their goalie and added another man up front, and scored a goal with less than a minute to go in regulation. The Spirit managed to contain the Wildcats extra-man advantage and won the game 4-3.
On Sunday, the Wildcats visited the league-leading Tornado. The âCats were tied with Texas 2-2 halfway into the second period, but could not keep up with the Tornado as they scored six more goals to win 8-3. Four of the final six goals scored by the Tornado were power play goals. Dan Medenwaldt (pictured above) led the Wildcats with two assists on the day. Chris Ochoa, Dave Lewandowski, and Kyle Kraemer each added a goal a piece. Drew Walters, Jack Wolgemuth, Kevin Huck, and Nicholas Ghidina each added an assist in the losing effort.
The Wildcats will play three games this weekend, two at home. On Friday December 10 at 7:00 p.m., they host the Santa Fe Roadrunners, and do so again on Sunday, December 12tat 3:00 p.m. against the Roadrunners. The âCats will travel to Texarkana to take on the Bandits on Saturday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m.
