December 9, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release
After the Texas Tornado were defeated at home by Texarkana on Friday night, they looked for a little revenge as they faced the Bandits on Saturday in Texarkana.
With starting goaltender Ben Bishop on an official visit to the University of Maine, backup goaltender Eddie Wheeler was called upon to backstop the Tornado. Wheeler was strong in goal, and the Tornado used a first period from Tyler Ludwig, along with a pair of power plays goal by Austin Miller and Tom Train to win 3-0. Brad Cooper and Nick Mazzolini (pictured above) both assisted on the final two goals, while Justin King and Raimonds Danilics assisted on the first goal scored by Ludwig.
On Sunday, the Tornado returned home to Frisco to take on the Wichita Falls Wildcats. Behind two goals and three assists from Mazzolini, the Tornado defeated the Wichita Falls Wildcats 8-3. Chris Nichols answered an early Wildcats goal with a great individual effort from the side of the goal. Train gave the Tornado a 2-1 lead, scoring with only one second left in the period.
The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2, but the Tornado then scored two straight power play goals from Karl Sellan and Justin King. Mazzolini added the fifth goal just minutes later and the Tornado led 5-3 after two periods. The third period was all Tornado, with Sellan and Mazzolini each scoring their second goals, and Brett Blatchford scoring his first of the season to make it 8-3. Wheeler was strong again between the pipes, stopping 27 shots.
The Tornado take to the road this week for a Saturday game against the Spirit in Springfield, Missouri and a Sunday clash against the Central Texas Marshals in Temple, Texas.
