Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats traveled to Frisco this weekend to take on their rival the Texas Tornado in a two-game series. The Cats won both games picking up four points in the standings and improving their record to 19-8-1. Wildcats Captain, Adam Cardwell scored three goals over the weekend and leads the team in scoring with forty-three points. Forward, Adam Sponseller also netted three goals during the weekend series. The Wildcats currently sit in second place in the NAHL South Division with thirty-nine points, only one point behind Fairbanks.

Friday night was the first time these two teams have met in over a month. It is always an intense game between the Wildcats and Tornado, and this weekend proved to be no different. The Cats got on the board first at the 12:43 mark of the first period. Adam Sponseller scored off the assist from Skylur Jameson and Branson Yost giving the Cats a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Tornado blasted the Wildcats goal with twenty five shots in the first two periods but goalie, Mike Jarboe, and the Wildcats defense were on top of their game. Skylur Jameson put another one between the pipes 6:16 into the second frame to put the Cats up 2-0. Branson Yost and Adam Sponseller had the assist. Texas answered back shortly after to narrow the Cats lead to only one goal. At the 13:47 mark, Skylur Jameson and Morrell found Sponseller who took advantage of his position and slid the puck past the Tornado goalie scoring his second goal of the game. The Tornado netted one more before the buzzer once again putting them within one. The third period remained scoreless by both teams and the Wildcats won the game 3-2.

Saturday night the Wildcats hit the ice and dominated the entire game, especially the last twenty minutes. Adam Sponseller netted the Cats first goal less than four minutes into the game giving them a 1-0 lead which they held throughout the first twenty minutes. Texas came out strong in the second and blasted the Cats with sixteen shots on goal but were unable to capitalize thanks to net-minder Mike Jarboe. With less than one minute remaining in the second stanza Adam Cardwell put another one between the pipes for the Cats giving them a 2-0 lead. The assists came from Salazar and Everett. The third frame the Wildcats came out and dominated scoring four more goals and never looking back. Only 2:05 into the final stanza Cardwell slid another one past the Tornado goalie put the Cats up by three. Once again the assists came from Salazar and Everett. Less than three minutes later the trio connected again but it was Salazar and Cardwell with the assists and Everett put the puck into the back of the net. Texas was finally able to connect at the 5:26 mark but it was too little too late. At the 7:30 mark Shaun Jameson capitalized on his position during the powerplay and put another into the back of the net for the Cats. The assist on the powerplay came from Brett Morrell and Skylur Jameson. The Tornado were able to put another one past Jarboe but the Cats were already leading 4-2 and they weren't done yet. With less than five minutes remaining in the game the Cats were on the penalty kill and Skylur Jameson found Cardwell who blasted the puck into the back of the net scoring his third goal of the game and giving the Wildcats the 6-2 victory.

When asked about the weekend, Coach Bowkus had this to say: "I was very pleased to get the four points on the weekend. I thought the Tornado outplayed us on Friday night and we were lucky to come out with a win. On Saturday, the way we played, I don't think any team could have beaten us. We played a complete game and totally controlled all aspects of the game. I look forward to playing them at home; I hope our success continues for our home crowd."

The Wildcats next home games are Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22 against the Texas Tornado. Puck drops at 7:05pm! Friday night is Santa Hat Night and if you wear a Santa Hat you will receive a free post game skate. Saturday is our annual Teddy Bear Toss. Bring a stuffed animal and receive a free post game skate. After the Wildcats score their first goal all the stuffed animals will get thrown on the ice and collected by Rainbow House.
