Wichita Wild News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wild (5-1) will host the Oklahoma Defenders (4-3) this Saturday in Hartman Arena; kick-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Wichita returns home after dismantling the Omaha Beef 66-33, while Oklahoma is coming off a win against the Kansas Koyotes 64-55. Earlier this season when these two teams met the Wild escaped Oklahoma with a win 50-44, their closest margin of victory this season. Saturday's game will be a key match-up between the CPIFL's number one scoring offense, Oklahoma, averaging 57.1 ppg against the league's top defense, Wichita, on average holding their opponents to 29 ppg.

Wichita enters the contest boasting an undefeated home record this season and have truly dominated inside Hartman Arena. In the two home games so far this season the Wild have only given up a total of 39 points while scoring 89 points themselves. Early in their game last week against the Beef (3-4), the Wild looked to be in for a tough battle as the teams stayed neck-and-neck for the first quarter. The Wild came out firing in the second quarter scoring 24 points and only allowing six, to give them a 30-13 lead at the half. The third quarter cooled off for both teams, with the Wild defense shutting out the Beef and the offense producing a score by RB Tywon Hubbard along with a field goal by Ernesto Lacayo. Omaha made a run at the Wild scoring 20 points in the fourth, but the Wild still outscored the Beef, putting up 27 points of their own. Wichita was led by QB Rocky Hinds who was 9-15 with three touchdowns and one interception on the night. Hinds added 11 yards rushing with one touchdown. Hubbard rushed for 74 yards, scoring three times, while Joe Kassanavoid grabbed two touchdowns of his own to clench a 66-33 win for the Wild on the road.

Oklahoma enters Saturday's contest coming off a win in a close game against the Kansas Koyotes (0-5) in a final score, 64-55. Although the Defenders were able to come away with a victory, they were out scored in the second half against Kansas, 44-35. The Koyotes got within five points toward the end of the third quarter, but allowed a 45-yard bomb from Defender QB Brady May to WR Isaiah Anderson, which gave Oklahoma the edge it needed to return momentum to their side and come away with their fourth victory this season.

"Oklahoma is coming in with a lot of confidence and played a solid game against us in the first match-up," said Wild Head coach Paco Martinez. "I'm looking forward to playing a full four quarters against them...In our last meeting, we played two really good quarters and two below-average quarters. I expect to get Oklahoma's best shot on Saturday night. "

Player to Watch: Wild DL Brandon Jenkins

The 6'5" 290 lb. native of Memphis, TN has been a force on the defensive line for the Wild. Jenkins attended Ole Miss where he played in every position on the defensive front. In the last game against Oklahoma, Jenkins recorded four tackles, three of those behind the line of scrimmage and had the only sack of the game.
