
Wild Re-Sign Two Former Kansas State Athletes

The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) has re-signed two more defensive backs to the squad for 2011. Former Kansas State defensive backs Byron Garvin and Justin McKinney have both agreed to return to the team. Garvin will be playing in his third season for the Wild while McKinney will be in his second season with the team.
Garvin is 4th on the team's all-time tackles list with 103.5. He played in 10 games during the regular season in 2010 and finished 4th on the team in tackles with 43. Garvin compiled 60.5 tackles in 2009 after playing in all 14 regular season games. Before joining the Wild, Garvin spent time in mini-camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the summer of 2008.
Garvin played in nine games and recorded 42 tackles and two interceptions in 2007 as a senior at Kansas State. Garvin saw action in 12 games as a junior in 2006. The Miramar, FL native tallied 58 tackles, which ranked fifth on the team. Garvin also scored the game-winning touchdown vs. Illinois State by returning a fumble. As a sophomore, Garvin started seven games and recorded 30 tackles. Garvin saw action in 11 games on special teams as a freshman.
McKinney played in six games in 2010. He recorded 26 tackles, which was 8th on the team. McKinney did not play in 2009, but spent the 2008 NFL season on the practice squads of the St. Louis Rams and Buffalo Bills.
McKinney's final season at Kansas State was in 2007 when he was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team as he led the Wildcats in tackles with 74. In 2006, the Sanford, FL native recorded 54 tackles and became the first Kansas State player since 1936 to return a game opening kickoff for a touchdown. In 2005, McKinney led the Wildcats in interceptions with three.
Before heading to Manhattan, McKinney played in 2004 at Garden City Community College. McKinney compiled 54 tackles and five interceptions in his only season for the Broncbusters.
