Wichita Wild News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - With the opening of training camp only weeks away, the Wichita Wild of The Indoor Football League (IFL) are ready for a thrilling 2012 season.
As training camp for the upcoming season is scheduled to open-up on February 11th, the Wild will look to returning stars, as well as new additions to build upon last season's second half turnaround. Returners to the Wild this season will include Quarterback Phil Staback, Offensive Lineman Brett Cavanah, Wes Yarbough, and Jason Enos, Running Back Kenny Wilson, Defensive Back Scooter Rodgers, and Defensive Lineman Matt Moss (returning from play in the Canadian Football League), among others.
However this season, the Wild are equally excited about new talents coming in. League approved late Thursday night, the Wild have signed Wide Receiver Doug Pierce for the upcoming 2012 season. Pierce, a Dallas Texas native, began his college career playing for West Texas before transferring to Friends University, located in Wichita Kansas, to finish off his college career. Pierce has spent time playing in the Arena Football League (AFL) in Spokane, and also played a short time in San Jose. At 6'5" weighing 210lbs, Doug's addition to the Wild will no doubtable help to strengthen an already bolstered offense.
Head Coach Morris Lolar is excited about the addition of Piecre, as well as the prospects of the upcoming season. "Doug is exactly the type of athlete this team looks for. He's tough, physical, and has good indoor experience. His addition is just one more thing to get excited about for the upcoming season."
Wild Quarterback Phil Staback is equally excited about the signing of Pierce. "Bringing Doug into the equation along with Tim (Simmons, another standout Wide Receiver added to the Wild this offseason) makes this team a potent threat. Having two big, physical Wide Receivers like these guys to throw at helps open up the field, as well as the playbook."
The Wild will begin the 2012 season with two games on the road starting February 25th against the Allen Wranglers, followed by a March 3rd game in Nebraska against Omaha. Wichita then plays their home opener on March 9th, hosting the Sioux Falls Storm. Season tickets for the upcoming 2012 season go on sale to the general public next Monday, January 16.
