Wichita Wild News Release
The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will look to get back in the win column on Saturday as they host the Abilene Ruff Riders (3-1). The Wild (1-4) are happy to return to Hartman Arena after coming off a two game road skid. Kick-off is at 7:05 PM and doors will open at 6:00 PM. Tickets are available at the Hartman Arena Box Office by calling 927-3999 or online at www.stage1tickets.com.
This Saturday will mark the second straight start for Wild quarterback Alex Melugin. In his first professional start, the former Friends University signal caller hooked up on 14 of his 24 passing attempts for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In the past two weeks, Wild receiver Tim Riley has nabbed 12 passes ending in pay dirt four times. Riley also ran for a four-yard touchdown in last week?s loss to the Sioux City Bandits.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Wild enter this week ranked third in rushing and eighth in passing yards allowed among IFL teams. Defensive Back Ene Akpan recorded his first interception of the season last week. Linebacker LaMont Reid once again led the Wild defense in tackles last week with 6.5.
The Ruff Riders offense, led by former Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Quincy Carter, is putting up 44.2 points per game, which ranks ninth in the IFL. Carter enters Saturday?s game against the Wild with a 110.1 passer rating and 18 touchdown passes. Carter has spread the wealth around, throwing touchdown passes to five different receivers on the roster. Former Kansas State running back, Carlos Alsup, leads the rushing attack for the Ruff Riders averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
Defensive Back Joey Longoria has been a terror so far this season for opposing quarterbacks. Longoria has intercepted five passes this season, good enough to rank second in the IFL. However, Abilene?s inability to put pressure on the passer so far has resulted in only two sacks this season.
The Wild will take to the road following the game vs Abilene and return home on May 23 vs. the Odessa Roughnecks. To purchase tickets, visit www.stage1tickets.com or stop by the Hartman Arena Box Office in Park City. Group discounts are available for businesses and civic groups by calling the Wild office at 316-440-5044.
