May 8, 2014 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL)
Wichita Wild News Release
Wichita, Kan.- The Wichita Wild announced today that veteran defensive lineman, Matt Moss has been transferred to the NFL. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year (IFL, CPIFL) received an invitation to attend mini-camp with the Minnesota Vikings. This news comes after Wild teammates, quarterback Rocky Hinds and defensive back Kendrick Harper have also received looks for their outstanding play with the Wild over the last two seasons.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to try out in the NFL. God answered my prayers and I am thankful. It will be awesome to put a Vikings helmet on and give it all I've got," Moss stated.
Moss began his road to stardom at Texas A&M in 2009 after transferring from Grossmont College. In his career at Texas A&M, Moss registered a total of 40 tackles (7.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, two fumbles and one interception to place him in the eyes of several scouts.
After graduating, Moss signed with the Wild in 2011 and at the close of the season was called up to the Edmonton Eskimos. He would not make it out of training camp and returned to the Wild in 2012, producing a breakout season where he boasted 29 tackles, 15 sacks and two fumbles to earn him the IFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Moss continued to show his skill in the 2013 season topping the league with 49 total tackles (24 for loss), 17.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three blocked field goals and one touchdown. His efforts earned him several awards including 2013 CPIFL Defensive Player of the Year, 2013 All-CPIFL Team, and Defensive Player of the Week (week 14).
So far this season, Moss totals 22 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. His consistent play has helped build a solid Wild defense that ranks first in the league in nearly every category.
"Matt is a rare talent and I'm happy that he's being recognized and given a chance to show his skill at the NFL level," Wild head coach, Paco Martinez said. "I'm proud of Matt and the hard work he's put in to get an opportunity like this. We will miss his energy and leadership on the field."
The Wild continue season play next week, May 17th at home against the (0-7) Kansas Koyotes; kick-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in Hartman Arena. Free player trading cards will be given for the first 1,000 fans through the door and an autograph session will take place immediately following the game.
