Wichita Wild News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wild (10-2) completed a season sweep of the Mid-Missouri Outlaws (0-12) with a 74-16 victory in Hartman Arena. Wild quarterback Rocky Hinds completed seven of ten passes for 69 yards and four touchdowns and added an additional score on the ground, while running backs Tywon Hubbard and Travis Ribbing combined for 87 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, defensive lineman Matt Moss registered three sacks and a forced fumble that led to a defensive touchdown, while defensive back Chris Brown recorded an interception that he returned and fumbled with Moss recovering in the endzone for a score. The Wichita victory combined with a Sioux City win over Bloomington gives the Wild the number three seed in the CPIFL playoffs, set to begin next Saturday with Wichita traveling to Omaha.

Wichita raided Mid-Missouri from the beginning, opening the game with five consecutive touchdowns. The scoring began after Hubbard returned the opening kickoff to the Outlaws five yard line, punching it in one play later. The onslaught continued with two touchdown passes from Hinds to wide receiver Tim Simmons, an eight yard and three yard pass, an interception return courtesy of Brown that he fumbled and Moss recovered, and a two yard run by Ribbing. The early scoring barrage provided Wichita with a 35-0 advantage by the second quarter.

With two minutes left in the first half, Mid-Missouri finally broke their scoring drought with a two yard touchdown pass from quarterback Damien Dunning to wide receiver Josh Reid. The Outlaws ensuing extra point was blocked by Wild defensive lineman Darius Parish, leaving the score at 35-6. Mid-Missouri was not able to build any momentum however, as running back Travis Ribbing cashed in a 20 yard run for his second touchdown of the game and Hinds provided Wichita a one yard quarterback sneak. The two scores provided the Wild a 49-6 lead going into the half.

The second half began with another empty possession for the Outlaws followed by a seven yard swing pass from Hinds to Ribbing countered with a 41 yard field goal by Outlaws kicker Derek Doerfler. The Wild responded with a 19 yard touchdown pass from Hinds to wide receiver Jarrel Kelley. After an unsuccessful extra point, the Wild led the Outlaws 62-9. On Wichita's next offensive possession, back-up quarterback Nick Hardesty was inserted into the game, and his pass on third down was intercepted by Mid-Missouri defensive back Ken Davis and returned 27 yards for the Outlaws' third score of the game, slicing Wichita's lead to 62-16. Hardesty promptly redeemed himself on the next drive with a 20 yard run, evading a slew of defenders up the right wall for a touchdown, 68-16 in favor of the Wild. Wichita's defense, solid all night, was eager to produce points. A solid hit by Moss forced a fumble that was swooped up by defensive lineman James McCartney who rumbled in for Wichita's final touchdown of the game. By the whistle's end, Wichita earned a 74-16 triumph over Mid-Missouri.

The CPIFL playoffs begin next Saturday, June 15, with Wichita traveling to Omaha to take on the Beef while the Sioux City Bandits host the Salina Bombers; kickoff scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CST). The game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO in the Wichita area or streamed live on kgso.com.
