Wichita Wild Named IFL Franchise of the Year

On Tuesday, the Indoor Football League (IFL) handed out their team awards for the 2009 season. Awards were given in 11 categories ranging from Mascot of the Year and Website of the Year to the Franchise of the Year award. The awards were given based on nominations submitted and a vote of all 19 IFL franchises. After the votes were tallied, the Wichita Wild organization was recognized as the IFL?s Franchise of the Year.

The Wild are wrapping up the most successful season in franchise history, both on and off the field. The organization saw a 75% increase in attendance over last season and consistently followed standards set forth by the league office. The Wild will play the first playoff game in franchise history on Saturday in Bloomington, IL.

Wild GM Mike McCoy says "To be recognized like this by our peers is very humbling. We feel like we made great strides in 2009 to continue building the franchise for this community." McCoy added "We still have work to do, but we know that if you consistently do the little things right and show people a good time you will be successful."

Along with McCoy, the franchise is managed by team owner Wink Hartman, Head Coach Ken Matous, and Assistant GM James Bain. The Wild also had a great staff of interns - Caleb Sanders, Ryan Freivogel, Nick Baldetti, Eric Siever, Brett McCue, and Danea Mann.

The Wild will continue their quest for the United Bowl trophy on Saturday, July 18 as they head to Bloomington in the first round of the IFL Playoffs. The game can be heard on 1330 AM KNSS with pre-game action starting at 6:45 PM and kickoff scheduled for 7:05.
