Wichita Wild News Release
ALLEN, TX - In perhaps one of the most thrilling playoff games in recent history, the Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) beat the Allen Wranglers with a last minute 54 yard field goal, and a last second interception. The game saw 8 lead changes and 4 ties throughout, with either team seemingly able to achieve the upper hand.
Receiving the ball with just under 90 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Allen Wranglers drove down field finding the end-zone for a touchdown, followed direct by a two-point conversion, tying the game at 40 all. The Wranglers kickoff to the Wild gave Wichita the ball back with 58 seconds remaining. After failing to convert on consecutive second and third down attempts, with 24 second remaining, James Chandler stepped in to attempt a 54 yard field goal. Clutch as he has been all season, Chandler remained true to his nature, nailing the field goal and giving the Wild a 43-40 lead.
However the Wranglers were not ready to throw in the towel. Receiving the ball with 13 seconds reaming, the Allen offense went to work, driving the ball down to the Wild's 8 yard line with 8 seconds remaining. Looking for the win, Wrangler Quarterback David Knighton took his shot for the end-zone, but found none other than Wichita's Defensive Back Kendrick Harper. Harper pulled in a one-handed interception, ending the game and securing the victory for Wichita; final score 43-40.
With the victory, the Wichita Wild will head to the Intense Conference Finals where they will face the Tri-Cities Fever. The Intense Conference Finals game between the Wichita Wild and Tri-Cities Fever will take place this Friday, June 29, played out of Washington; kickoff scheduled at 9:05pm (CST)
