Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, Kansas - The waiting is almost over for head coach Land Jacobsen who has been anticipating the start of training camp since July 21st, 2001. Coincidentally that night was the end of Jacobsen's first season in arenafootball2.
"That last game left a bad taste in my mouth," said Jacobsen, "I've been waiting awhile for a chance to clear that loss out of my mind."
The Stealth ended their inaugural season with a disappointing performance in Lincoln, losing 29-6 and ending the season with a record of 7-9. Impressive considering the team was formed in less than three months. "It was challenging," said Jacobsen, "but I am still pleased with what we were able to accomplish."
The 2002 season begins with a whole new look, a higher level of expectation, and an eagerness to start. "The coaching staff, front office and the players are all ready to get this thing started," said General Manager Mike McCoy. Getting started is just what they will do Monday, March 18th.
33 players will report to camp today for their first practice of the season. 18 of those players are new to the Stealth this season. A number of players will return this year including Will Sullivan who only played two weeks for the Stealth in 2001. Sullivan is very familiar to the Wichita area as he grew up here and left his mark on city league football. A graduate of Southeast High School Sullivan is second all-time in city league history for career receptions.
Another player returning to the Stealth this season is Willie Grissom who was named Iron Man of the Week in week six, by arenafootball2. Grissom caught five passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns and made two interceptions leading the Stealth over Lincoln 48-37.
Practices during the week are closed to the public but open to the media. Media Day is scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kansas Coliseum. Attached is a schedule of practice times and locations.
