Wichita Wild News Release

The Wichita Wild fell short of a victory in Sioux City against the Bandits Saturday night with a final score of 48-45. In a close matchup, the Wild went into halftime neck and neck with the Bandits. Sioux City came out roaring in the third quarter with three consecutive scores and the Wild were able to ignite a comeback of their own led by Wild QB Rocky Hinds who had 203 yards, completing 21 of 30 passes for four touchdowns and one interception to tie the game. In the end, the Wild's efforts would not be enough to overcome the Bandits in their first loss of the season.

The first quarter was action packed for both teams in a back and forth affair. The Wild put the first points on the board off a 48-yard pass from Hinds to WR Rashad Daniels for a 7-0 lead and would later find RB Tywon Hubbard for another touchdown. Sioux City produced two touchdowns of their own, one on a 22-yard pass from QB Scott Jensen to WR Eddie Pertilla for a touchdown and a two-point conversion and the other when RB Mario Melvin ran the ball two yards into the end zone to take a 15-14 lead to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Wild struggled to produce points, allowing the Bandits to extend their lead 22-14 with a 17 yard touchdown run by Johnny Bentley. A Hinds interception put a damper on the Wild's momentum, but on the very next play, Wild corner DB Kiaree Daniels snatched an interception of his own, giving Jensen his first of the year, and returning it for a touchdown to close in on the 22-21 Bandit lead. Jensen redeemed himself for the Bandits, finding Pertilla again for 30 yards and a touchdown to extend their lead 29-21 with just 4 minutes left in the half. The Wild were finally able to put together a long drive that resulted in a 22-yard field goal to cut the Bandit lead 29-24 at the half.

The Bandits opened the third quarter, stunning the Wild with three consecutive scores including a touchdown, a safety and then finishing off the run with another connection from Jensen to Pertilla on a 37 yard pass for a touchdown to extend their lead 45-24. Wichita was finally able to find some momentum and went on a scoring spree of their own that started with a long pass from Hinds to Kassanavoid just shy of the end zone and would finish with a quarterback sneak by Hinds to cut the Bandit lead. Daniels, who had a big night for the Wild, kept the momentum going by recovering a Bandit fumble, setting the Wild up for another score that resulted in Hinds finding WR Jarrel Kelley for a touchdown. Kelley would find the end zone again on the next Wild drive to tie the game at 45 apiece. Though the Wild defense was able to hold the Bandits to a field goal with just 2:36 left in regulation, they would not be able to convert on a field goal of their own and in the final lose their first game of the season 48-45 to the Bandits.

Wichita will return home next Saturday, April 12 when they host the (2-3) Lincoln Haymakers at 7:05 p.m. for Salute to Service Night presented by Kakeland.
