Wichita Advances to Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals
April 20, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
GLENDALE, AZ - The Wichita Thunder have earned a spot in the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals for the second consecutive season thanks to their Conference Semifinals series sweep over the Fort Worth Brahmas. The Thunder will make their second consecutive trip to the Finals and their fifth visit overall. Wichita has two CHL titles to their credit (defeated Tulsa in 1994 and defeated San Antonio in 1995).
The Thunder clinched their berth thanks to a 3-1 victory over the Brahmas on Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre in Game 4 of their series. It was Wichita's eighth straight win tying the CHL record for the longest post-season win streak (Oklahoma City won eight straight games in the 1999 playoffs and the WPHL's Lubbock Cotton Kings won eight straight games in 2001).
Prior to beating the Brahmas in four straight games, the Thunder defeated the Arizona Sundogs in the Opening Round in four straight contests.
Wichita will await the winner of the Allen Americans/Missouri Mavericks Conference Semifinals series which currently sits with the Americans leading three games to two as the series heads back to Allen for Game 6 on Monday night and Game 7, if necessary, on Tuesday night.
The Thunder finished the regular season with a 39-19-8 record (86 points) finishing second overall in the CHL standings trailing the Americans by one point (39-18-9).
The Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Final's schedule will be announced at the conclusion of the other semifinals series. Follow all the CHL playoff news, notes and happenings on www.centralhockeyleague.com and at the CHL's Playoff Headquarters.
