WHL and Canada West Universities Enhance Scholarship Offer

Calgary, Alberta - Ron Robison, Commissioner of the Western Hockey League, and Clint Hamilton, President of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA) today announced a commitment to continue major enhancements to the joint WHL - CWUAA hockey scholarship in Western Canada.
All Canada West University hockey programs have developed their own athletic financial awards to further enhance the overall assistance for WHL players. The Canada West Universities financial assistance supports hockey student athletes by offering awards and scholarships that cover additional education expenses. This, combined with the WHL Scholarship which includes a player's tuition, textbooks and compulsory fees, makes the WHL - CWUAA joint scholarship equivalent to any other offer available in North America today.
Through the WHL - CWUAA partnership, hockey players that participate in the WHL are eligible to receive what is now referred to as Western Canada's Premiere Hockey Scholarship.
The WHL - CWUAA partnership, formed in 2005, is designed to broaden the awareness of the combined scholarship opportunities in Western Canada through participation in the WHL and in CWUAA hockey programs. Each year, more players in the Canadian system are taking advantage of furthering their education in Canada at some of the finest Universities in North America.
The WHL continues to be the leading contributor of hockey scholarships in Western Canada. This year alone, over 230 WHL graduate players were recipients of the WHL Scholarships and are attending post-secondary institutions throughout Canada.
This season 140 of the 230 WHL graduates on a WHL Scholarship are furthering their education while playing elite University hockey in the Canada West Conference and utilizing Western Canada's Premiere Hockey Scholarship.
This season in the Canada West Conference, close to 70% of all players are WHL graduates.
