(Bakersfield, CA) - When Bakersfield kicks off its game against the San Diego Riptide this Saturday at 7:00 p.m., expect to see a sea of white. The Blitz, KUZZ and Mercedes Benz of Bakersfield are sponsoring "Whiteout the Riptide Night" for the Bakersfield-San Diego game and are asking all Blitz fans to wear as much white as possible to the Centennial Garden this Saturday. In honor of the inaugural event, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive an official 2003 Whiteout the Riptide t-shirt.
"We hope that all Blitz fans will wear white to the game on May 31st," said Blitz General Manager Brad Hoffman. "We want to support our football team in every way possible and we hope by doing this, it will show unity and support for our football team. The Bakersfield-San Diego game will be broadcasted live on cable television via Bright House Networks (channel 21). "We can show everyone that the best arenafootball2 fans are at the Centennial Garden every Saturday night cheering the Blitz on to victory."
"Let the pride and enthusiasm carry over from the fans in the arena to the players on the turf," added Blitz Head Coach James Fuller. "The fans can help make game day at the Centennial Garden on May 31st a night to remember."
Bakersfield and San Diego have developed a rivalry over the past year and defensive specialist J'Sharlon Jones expects nothing less this Saturday.
"It's a California West Division rivalry," said Jones. "It's going to be a dog fight out there this Saturday night, but with all our fans wearing the white clothes, I think the Garden is going to be rocking come kickoff. This is a great opportunity for the fans and players to come together as one."
