Whitecaps Win Over Wave
June 4, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
The Whitecaps Men snapped a two-game losing skid with a big 2-1 victory away to the Milwaukee Wave United to close out their two-game road trip.
Midfielder Steve Kindel netted the winner in the 75th minute to pace the Whitecaps to the win, despite a roster depleted by injuries from a tough overtime loss Wednesday night in Minnesota.
Match Stats Standings and Stats The Whitecaps opened scoring against Milwaukee thanks to a goal in the 37th minute from Alfredo Valente. However their hosts, who are still looking for their first win, equalised just three minutes later. Kindel's game winner, on the pass from rookie Kevin Harmse, was his first goal of the season.
The win moves the Whitecaps to 4-2-1 for 13 points, as they remain third in the Western Conference, two points behind the Minnesota Thunder, and five back of the Portland Timbers who were 2-1 winners Friday night away to the Charleston Battery.
The Caps now return home to face the Montreal Impact at Swangard Stadium on Friday, June 11.
Game Notes
The Milwaukee goalkeeper was former Whitecap Jim Larkin.
Alex Marques played in Vancouver's goal in place of Mike Franks, who was injured in Wednesday's game.
Milwaukee remain winless at 0-4-1, and are in last place in the West.
The goal moves Kindel into 10th place on Vancouver's all-time scoring list with 75 points, the same as retired midfielder Doug Muirhead, but with Kindel having played fewer games.
