Minnesota Whitecaps News Release
The Minnesota Whitecaps have signed former University of Minnesota forward Kate Schipper for the 2018-2019 season.
During Schipper's impressive collegiate career from 2013-2017, she finished with 41 goals and 80 assists for a total of 121 points in 157 games, and helped lead Minnesota to two national championships. She joined the Whitecaps last season and was one of the club's two representatives when the NWHL All-Star Game was played in Saint Paul in February.
"The All-Star Weekend in Saint Paul showed the strength of the women's hockey community and fan base we have in Minnesota, so I'm very excited for the opportunity to play a part in bringing professional women's hockey to the state," said Schipper, 23. "I hope to establish the Whitecaps as a competitor in the NWHL while continuing to advance girls' hockey in Minnesota and across the U.S."
In her senior year at Minnesota as Assistant Captain, Schipper completed her season with 13 goals and 17 assists, and scored a goal in the Frozen Four Semifinal. She was also a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, WCHA All-Academic Team member, All-Academic Big Ten honoree, and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
For the U.S. National Team program, Schipper was named MVP and best forward of the 2013 IIHF U18 Women's World Championships and won silver medals with Team USA in 2012 and 2013.
The Whitecaps open the 2018-19 season at TRIA Rink in Saint Paul on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7 against the defending Isobel Cup champion Metropolitan Riveters. The Whitecaps feature 2018 Team USA Olympic gold medalists Hannah Brandt and Lee Stecklein, along with NWHL Goaltender of the Year Amanda Leveille. Season tickets for the Whitecaps' inaugural NWHL season are on sale now at NWHL.zone.
