For Immediate Release: June 27, 2008 WHITECAPS RELEASE POZNIAK VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the release of defender Chris Pozniak. Pozniak signed with the Whitecaps on May 21 of this year, with the understanding that he would be released at the end of June to pursue playing options in Europe.

Pozniak, who was born in Kraków, Poland, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1990, appeared in seven regular season matches for Vancouver. In 570 minutes, Pozniak scored one goal - equalizer on June 22 against Miami FC Blues - and added one assist. Pozniak also started both of Vancouver's first two matches in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. The Whitecaps were 4W-4L-1D with Pozniak in the lineup.

The Whitecaps next match is on Canada Day, Tuesday, July 1, when they travel to southern Ontario to battle Toronto FC of Major League Soccer in the fourth match of the inaugural Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Toronto won their first match of the tournament 1-0 over Montreal Impact and Vancouver has lost both of their matches 2-0 to Montreal. Tuesday's tilt will kick off at 1:00 p.m. (PT) and can be seen live nationally on CBC.

The Whitecaps next home tilt at Swangard Stadium will take place on Wednesday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m. when they play their final game in the inaugural Nutrilite Canadian Championship against Toronto. Call 604.669.WAVE (9283) for ticket information, or purchase online at ticketmaster.ca.
