Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Both Vancouver Whitecaps FC men's and women's teams are looking to continue their winning ways this Friday with critical road matches. The men travel to Rochester to take on the Rhinos (5:00 p.m. PT - Fox Sports World Canada), while the women are in Ventura to battle the Fusion (7:30 p.m. PT).
VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC - MEN'S MATCH PREVIEW
Vancouver Whitecaps men (7-2-1) go in search of their fifth straight win when they visit the struggling Rochester Rhinos (1-4-4) on Friday evening.
Teitur Thordarson's side maintained their lead at the top of the USL First Division last Saturday, as Martin Nash's sublime second-half winner sent the Whitecaps on their way to a 3-1 victory over Pacific Northwest rivals Portland Timbers at Swangard Stadium. The result followed an excellent three-game road trip that started in Portland, as the Whitecaps claimed away wins over the Timbers, Charleston Battery, and Minnesota Thunder late last month. Vancouver will hope they can maintain what is currently the best away record of any USL-1 club at present, with the Whitecaps being the only side in the league not to have conceded defeat, or even a goal, on their travels to this stage of the campaign.
They return to the venue that holds fond memories for the club. It was on September 30, 2006, that the Whitecaps defeated Rochester 3-0 to win the USL-1 championship at PAETEC Park. Friday's game will be the 14th meeting between the two clubs, with Vancouver leading the all-time set of results with a record of seven wins, four defeats, and two draws. In Upstate New York, the Whitecaps have recorded two wins, three defeats, and a draw all-time against the Rhinos. This included last season's 1-1 draw on May 4.
Their first meeting of 2008 started a successful month of results for the Whitecaps, as Eduardo Sebrango's late goal gave Vancouver a 1-0 home win over the Rhinos on May 10.

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC - WOMEN'S MATCH PREVIEW
Vancouver Whitecaps women (4-0-2) will look to claim a fourth-straight win when they visit Ventura County Fusion (1-3-1) on Friday night.
Marc Rizzardo's traveling squad made a fine start to an important W-League Western Conference road trip, as new addition Amy Vermeulen scored Vancouver's goals in a 2-1 victory over the struggling Los Angeles Legends on Wednesday evening. It was an impressive result, considering the number of new faces brought into the team for the three-game southern California trip.
The squad's next task is a visit to Ventura, California, and a second meeting of the season with Michelle Myers' Fusion side. Both clubs met for the first time in W-League history on May 17, as they drew 2-2 at Swangard Stadium. Should Ventura County have any aspirations of reaching the playoffs in their inaugural season, they must look to claim all three points at home against the Whitecaps, who sit 10 points ahead of Ventura County in second place.
