Whitecaps finish third overall

VANCOUVER, B.C. - Vancouver Whitecaps Director of Soccer Operations, Bob Lenarduzzi, today announced that the Whitecaps will play their first playoff game on the road on Friday, September 16 and complete the two-game series at home on Sunday, September 18 at Swangard Stadium - kick off at 7pm. The Whitecaps clinched third overall and home field advantage in the first round of the USL First Division playoffs as a result of Puerto Rico's 2-0 victory over Seattle last night.

"I am very pleased that we were able to secure third overall in a very competitive 12-team league," said Lenarduzzi. "Although we still don't know who our first round opponent will be, we believe that starting on the road and finishing at home plays to our advantage."

In the 12-team USL First Division the top six teams qualify for the playoffs with the top two teams, Montreal and Rochester, receiving first round byes. The remaining four teams, Vancouver, Seattle, Richmond and either Atlanta, Minnesota, Portland or Puerto Rico, will compete in the first round. All playoff rounds will be a two-game, aggregate-goal series with the exception of the USL First Division Championship which will be played on Saturday, October 1.

WHITECAPS PLAYOFF TICKETS

Whitecaps defender Geordie Lyall was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for his efforts in the Whitecaps three game road trip.
