
Whitecaps FC Add Midfielder Koffie

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the signing of midfielder Gershon Koffie. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Koffie, 19, joins Whitecaps FC after spending four seasons with the reserve side of International Allies FC, who play in Ghana's third-tier Division Two League. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-footed central midfielder scored 28 goals for International Allies reserves between 2006 and 2009.
A product of Ghanaian youth club Rot-Weiss Accra - who are affiliated with Germany's Rot-Weiss Essen - Koffie recently had trials in Europe with Danish club Randers FC and Swedish outfit Hammarby IF. The native of Koforidua, Ghana, participated in Ghana's U-20 national team training camp this past July.
North American Soccer League (NASL) Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC (9W-3L-13D) will battle USL Conference club Puerto Rico Islanders (8W-8L-8D) this Sunday, September 5, at Swangard Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT and can be seen live on Shaw TV or online at whitecapsfc.com/live.
