ORLANDO, Fla. (August 15, 2006) -- Orlando Predators lineman Greg White was the guest speaker at a Higher Education Fair at the Pine Hills Community Center on Tuesday evening.

White spoke to about 30 economically-disadvantaged students about the importance of a college education and what his college experience meant to him. "The idea of going to college can be intimidating," White related to the group. "But the main thing you have to remember is that everyone is there to help you and should not be afraid to ask for that help."

He added that college opens avenues of opportunity at levels not just related to education. "The friends and contacts you meet in college will be there forever," White told the group. "College provides horizons and opportunities that you can not imagine."

White was a guest of Educational Partners, Inc., the event's sponsor. The purpose of the Education Fair was to provide information on college admissions, financial aid, scholarships and tutoring programs to Central Florida's economically-disadvantaged students.

A native of New Jersey, White attended the University of Minnesota on a college football scholarship and welcomed the opportunity to speak at the event. "The sponsors of the Fair are doing important work in both getting out the message that there is a lot of ways to get to college and helping kids and parents through the process. If being there inspired just one kid to go to college, it was worth the time," White said.

White earned first team All-Rookie honors with the Predators in 2006.
