What to What this Weekend Across the USL: Week 6

May 27, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release

The Quails are back at home this Saturday night when Phoenix Rising FC visit Heart Health Park for what will be the first of four regular season fixtures between the fellow Pacific Division foes.

Saturday's showdown is also the first of three consecutive games Mark Briggs' men will play in Sacramento in an eight-day span.

Not only is play ramping up for Republic FC, the contests around the Championship are heating up as well and the next few days offer no shortage of enticing matches worthy of keeping tabs on.

Pacific Division Update

Republic FC and Orange County SC went head-to-head last weekend but the clash between Californian clubs wasn't the only fixture between Pacific Division opponents.

Saturday also saw Phoenix Rising FC cruise to a 5-1 win over Las Vegas Lights FC in Arizona with Rufat Dadashov bagging a brace. The following day, Oakland Roots SC came-from-behind on the road to down LA Galaxy II, 3-2.

San Diego Loyal SC was also in action over the weekend but fell 2-1 to Louisville City in Kentucky on Saturday. The SoCal club will look to bounce back this weekend when Las Vegas visits Loyal SC.

While the Indomitable Club welcome Rising FC to Sacramento this coming Saturday night, LA Galaxy II will be paying a visit to its southern neighbors - Orange County SC.

The league-wide weekend action wraps up on Sunday evening when Austin Bold host Tacoma Defiance in a clash between two Western Conference clubs.

Hartford Athletic v Real Monarchs

It's the weekend's most intriguing matchup between nonconference opponents when Hartford Athletic welcome Real Monarchs to the East Coast.

The matchup is the first-ever meeting between the two sides when the 2019 USL Championship title-winners visit Hartford who currently sit in second place in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

Hartford's early season two-game winning streak came to a close last weekend when the club played out a 1-1 draw at home against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Athletic currently trail the division leaders Tampa Bay Rowdies by five points in the division standings.

Real Monarchs are still in search of its first win in 2021 after earning two points from its opening three matches. Most recently, Monarchs picked up a point at home following a 1-1 draw against Austin Bold.

Louisville City FC v Indy Eleven

The Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest is one of the most anticipated league fixtures of the season.

Even though the all-time series heavily leans towards Louisville, Indy will have four chances this season to change that. Eleven currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference Central Division with six points but a win could see the club climb potentially as high as first. Same goes for LouCity if it can claim a positive result, as the club from Kentucky sits in third place on seven points thus far.

Last weekend, Louisville earned a 2-1 win at home over San Diego Loyal SC while Indy earned a 2-0 win against Sporting Kansas City II in Indianapolis.

San Antonio FC v Rio Grande Valley FC

It's a Texas-sized showdown on Saturday night when the top two teams from the Mountain Division go head-to-head as San Antonio FC welcomes Rio Grande Valley FC Toros to town.

San Antonio is currently in second place in the division and level on points with New Mexico United - seven - but a win for SAFC would see the side leapfrog RGVFC into first place. After Toros took the first match between the two, 2-1, on May 16, San Antonio responded nicely win over Birmingham Legion last Saturday.

Rio Grande Valley FC has a two-point lead at the top of the table and have allowed just two goals in four games this season. After Toros claimed all three points in its opening three matches, RGVFC was dealt its first loss of the 2021 season - a 1-0 loss to Locomotive FC in El Paso.
