Danbury Whalers News Release
Danbury CT- After a crushing overtime defeat the previous night at the hands of the Dayton Demonz, the Whalers wanted to make sure there was absolutely no chance for overtime in the rematch on Sunday night. Ryan Patsch had three goals and an assist and Mike Brown made 38 saves as the Whalers defeated the Demonz 8-1.
The first period was delayed for about forty minutes after a Cody Ayers shot shattered the glass behind the Dayton net. After the restart, it was the Whalers who got the scoring started on the power play thanks to Ryan Patsch. Mike Henderson sent a shot through a screen that Patsch was able to redirect in behind Demonz goalie Matt Kinsella. The goal was the 17th of the season for the rookie Patsch, who is making a strong case for rookie of the year in the Federal Hockey League. The Whalers' forward would make his case even stronger at 16:11 of the first as he struck for his second tally of the game. Ilya Solarev carried the puck into the Demonz end and made a pretty backhand pass across the slot where Patsch buried it home to make it 2-0 Danbury. It was the 18th goal of the season for Patsch, who now is tied with Cody Ayers for the team lead. The Whalers outshot the Demonz 18-12 in the first and carried the 2-0 lead into the intermission.
The Whalers continued their offensive onslaught early in the second period as Cody Ayers would collect his 18th of the season just 34 seconds into the middle frame. Ayers collected the loose puck in the slot and fire it over the blocker of Kinsella to make it 3-0. Mike Henderson was the next Whaler to get on the score sheet, as he would register his 5th of the season at 2:16. Matt Caranci made the cross ice pass right onto the stick of Henderson who buried the one-timer home and chasing Matt Kinsella from the game. After Harry Radovich was called for tripping and Brad Norkum for delay of game it looked as if the Demonz might be able to get back into the game. However, Harry Radovich sprung out of the penalty box and raced in all alone on Jeff Rose, beating him top shelf after an array of fancy moves. It was the 4th goal of the season for Radovich and the second straight game the Whalers have registered a shorthanded tally.
In the third period the Whalers got goals from Mike Henderson, Cody Ayers and Ryan Patsch who completed the hat trick. The Demonz got on the board late in the third period on the 14th goal of the season by Brian Marks. The Demonz saw their six game winning streak ended while the Whalers ended their two game losing streak.
