Demonz Nip Whalers in OT
Danbury CT- It's always an exciting game when the Dayton Demonz and Danbury Whalers play at the Danbury Ice Arena. Unfortunately, on this night, the Demonz would have the last laugh as they skated away with a 2-1 OT win on Saturday night. Len Pelletier scored the OT winner and Matt Kinsella made 39 saves as the Demonz spoiled the record setting night for Cody Ayers and the Whalers.
The Whalers would strike first on the scoreboard in the second period and they would do it in record setting fashion. After Tim Richter and Matt Caranci each took a minor penalty, the Whalers found themselves on the wrong end of a 5 on 3 penalty kill. A bit of confusion at the blue line by Brian Marks allowed Cody Ayers to spring free on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Demonz goaltender Matt Kinsella to the glove side and give the Whalers the 1-0 lead. It was the team leading 17th goal of the season for Ayers and more importantly was his 104th career point as a Danbury Whaler which pushed him past Alec Kirschner for first on the all-time list. After scoring the record breaking goal, an elated Ayers sprinted down the ice and leaped into the arms of his Commissioner's Cup Champion teammate Mike Brown. The goal stood as the only one of the period as the Whalers carried the 1-0 lead into the second intermission. The teams were even at 24 shots a piece after forty minutes.
In the third period the Demonz tied the game up at one thanks to the first goal as a member of the Dayton Demonz by the recently acquired Dustin Skinner. The big Dayton forward skated past the Whalers defense and moved in alone beating Mike Brown with a nifty move to the glove side. The two teams would exchange tremendous scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the third period, but neither could light the lamp and the game went to overtime.
In the overtime period it was Len Pelletier winning it for the Demonz at 2:24 on his 2nd goal of the season. Casey Mignone started the play by skating the puck behind the Whalers goal and making a pretty centering pass in the slot to Pelletier who blasted the one-timer home past Brown. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Demonz and the third overtime win this season for Dayton at the Danbury Ice Arena.
These two teams are back in action tomorrow night at the Danbury Ice Arena. Game time is scheduled for 6:35.

Dashers Secure Win #10 vs. Watertown, 5-3
It took 3 months but the Dashers have finally earned their 10th victory of the season and are now only 12 points behind Watertown for the 3rd place position in the FHL.
Things got started off at the opening faceoff as gloves dropped with the first puck as Chase Tippin and Chris Affinati, 2 fighters who have fought multiple times yet are good friends off the ice, went at it. Things turned scary though as Chris Affinati fell backward and hit his head on the ice. Luckily he escaped serious injury although he left the game and did not return. Midway through the 1st, Edgars Ozolins took out a Privateer as he came across the Danville blue line and Chase Tippin went after him for his 2nd fight of the night. With 8 seconds to go, a late power play was awarded to Danville, and 4 seconds later, Justin Brausen scored with only 4 seconds left in the period to take a 1-0 Dashers lead to the intermission.
Jason Bobich scored his first goal of the season 1:02 into the 2nd period to tie the score, 1-1. A scrum in the Dashers zone later in the period would start the 3rd fight of the game, as Kris McCarthy and Billy Hunt each earned 5 PIM in the sin bin. A resulting Dashers power play would work for Danville, as Joe Pace would rip one through the 5-hole of Matt Anthony to make it 2-1 Danville. Joe Pace would be ever present later on in the period and would then spear Beni Berisha, causing fight #4 of the night, and Joe Pace was ejected from the game with â..." of the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
In the 3rd period, it would be J.D. Gordon scoring 30 seconds into the period to tie the score again, 2-2. This time it would not take as long for the Dashers to respond, as exactly a minute later, Matt Puntureri scored to regain the lead, 3-2. 5 minutes later, Anthony Iaquinto scored his first goal as a Dasher to make it 4-2. Watertown kept coming though and Brent Clarke would pull the Privateers back within a goal with just under 8 minutes to go to make it 4-3. However with Anthony pulled, Matt Puntureri scored an empty netter to finish the game, 5-3 Danville
For Watertown, Brent Clarke scored a goal and assist, Jason Bobich and J.D. Gordon added a goal, and Beni Berisha added 2 assists. Chase Tippin led the way with 12 PIM and Matt Anthony stopped 32 of 36 shots for the loss. For Danville, Matt Puntureri had 2 goals and an assist, Joe Pace, Anthony Iaquinto and Justin Brausen added a goal each, and Ryan Stern tallied 3 assists. Joe Pace finished with 19 PIM and Josselin St. Pierre finished with 30 saves on 33 shots for the victory.
The Dashers next play at home against Dayton on Thursday the 13th, Watertown will play in Danbury next on Friday the 14th. The Dashers have now won 3 straight vs Watertown. A crowd of 1,000 people filed into the David S. Palmer Arena for tonight's game.
