Connecticut Whale News Release
Opening Day for the NWHL featured a great matchup between the New York Riveters and the Connecticut Whale.
In front of a loud, sold out crowd, the game began with some fast-paced action, and the first ever NWHL goal came 2:28 into the game. Jessica Koizumi rifled a shot passed Riveter goaltender Nana Fujimoto. After that, the game got a little chippy as each team piled up 6 penalty minutes each in the first period. Early into the second period, the Riveters tied the game on a shot by Brooke Ammerman, but the Whale answered back just a minute and ten seconds later and never looked back as they went on to win the first NWHL game 4-1.
The Whale are back in action next Sunday in Buffalo as they take on the Beauts at 3:30PM EST. The Riveters play that same day at 7:00PM for their home opener against the Boston Pride. For NWHL stats, streaming, and more, please visit NWHL.co.
