Boston Pride News Release
The Buffalo Beauts hosted the Boston Pride at the Harborcenter to kick off the NWHL season. The Beauts and Pride took the ice to a almost-sold out, energized, cheering crowd.
Both teams had quality scoring chances off the opening faceoff, but it was the Pride that jumped out front on a Hilary Knight goal with 12:08 remaining in the first period. Knight, parked in front of the net, jammed the puck home to take the 1-0 lead. The Pride took 5 penalties, but were able to gain a 4-0 lead before the Beauts got on the board. Kelley Steadman scored the first goal in Beauts history on the powerplay from Emily Pfalzer and Meghan Duggan with 7:58 to go in the third period. Hilary Knight finished the game with 2 goals. Jordan Smelker and Amanda Pelkey each had a goal in the Pride's 4-1 win.
The Pride will take the ice next Sunday in New York against the Riveters at 7:00PM EST while the Beauts will host the Connecticut Whale at 3:30PM at the Harborcenter. For more information on the NWHL, please visit NWHL.co.
