WFC2 Kick off USL Playoffs Friday at Colorado Springs
Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) will play their first ever match in the USL Cup Playoffs this coming Friday, September 30 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. PT, streamed live at whitecapsfc.com.The 'Caps are one of eight teams in the Western Conference to advance to the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs. The postseason will see a single-elimination bracket crown two conference champions, starting with the Conference Quarterfinals this coming weekend, hosted by the top four seeds in each conference. The winner of Friday's match will advance to the Western Conference semifinals the following weekend, between October 7 and 9.
WFC2 finished in sixth place in the Western Conference with a record of 12W-9L-9D and 45 points, marking a four win and 15-point improvement from their inaugural USL season in 2015.
Also in their second season, Colorado Springs finished in third place in the Western Conference with a record of 14W-9L-7D and 49 points, three points better than their first season.
The 'Caps played to a 1-1 draw in Colorado Springs on July 29 courtesy of a Brett Levis goal, and suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Switchbacks FC on September 11 after going down a man due to a red card in the first half.
The four-week postseason follows a fixed-seed format, concluding with the USL Cup Championship on Sunday, October 23, which will be played at the venue of the conference champion with the better regular season record.
