Westerners Sign Pair of Siena Saints
April 24, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Danbury Westerners News Release
Danbury, CT- April 24, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Siena's Neil Fryer and Alex Tuccio.
Neil Fryer (Greenwich, NY) is in his junior season as a relief pitcher for the Siena Saints. Neil has appeared in 18 games for the Saints, amassing 19 innings pitched and collecting seven saves on the way. Over his career at Siena, Neil has picked up 16 saves and posted a 2.57 ERA. Neil has stuck out 16 of the 75 batters he has faced this season. Siena head coach Tony Rossi commented on Neil's ability by saying, "Neil was again one of the top pitchers out of the bullpen last year. The coaching staff feels he should again be one of the top pitchers out of the pen in the MAAC coming off an outstanding summer. We will count on him heavily to be a major force." Neil is an accounting major.
Alex Tuccio (Ridgefield, CT) is an infielder for Siena. Despite sitting out this year due to NCAA transfer regulations, Alex posts an impressive baseball resume. Alex played his high school ball at Salisbury School in Connecticut, where he was a four time Western New England Prep Baseball League All-Star. During his senior year, Alex captained his team to a perfect 23-0 record, a Western New England championship, and the 26th ranking in the nation. Alex produced the most memorable moment of the 2010 Perfect Game WWBA National Championship. With his team trailing 10-7 in the seventh inning, and the bases loaded, Alex hit the game winning grand slam.
Paul Schaffer, Danbury Westerners President commented, "Neil Fryer has the makings of a good closer, which is needed to win in the NECBL. In addition, I'm excited that Alex Tuccio, a local baseball star from Ridgefield, will be on our team this summer, and I expect significant contributions from both of these Siena Saints."
In addition the Danbury Westerners are currently recruiting host families for the 2013 summer. We request your willingness to welcome a young athlete into your home and provide a private bedroom for the summer (first week of June through the first week of August). Food arrangements are up to you, and most players have their own cars for transportation. For those who don't, we pair them up with those who do. The benefits of being a Host Family are simple- the players quickly become a part of your family. You'll build relationships that last a lifetime. You will also receive season tickets so you'll be able to watch collegiate level baseball all summer long, and if you have young athletes of your own, the players serve as excellent mentors. Please contact Shelley Pitser at jspitser@msn.com if you are interested or need additional information.
The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles. For information on registration, please contact Mike Malone at 203-788-3408. Sponsorships are also available.
