
Westerners Sign Pair of ACC Pitchers

Danbury, CT- April 17, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Maryland's Ben Brewster and Boston College's Steven Green
Ben Brewster (Baltimore, Md.) returns for his second year with the Westerners. In 2012 Ben posted a 3-0 mark in ten appearances (five starts), with a 3.62 ERA. Currently Ben is a junior pitcher at the University of Maryland, and has appeared in six games for the Terps this season, all in relief, sporting a 2.70 ERA. Ben was a four year starter in high school, where he was an All-Conference selection twice. Ben led his team to a league championship during his senior year of high school, pitching a complete game and striking out 16 in the title game. Ben is the son of Jim and Deborah Brewster and is majoring in kinesiology.
Steven Green (Brewster, NY) is a junior pitcher for the Boston College Eagles. Steven has pitched in five games for BC this year, all in relief. Steven has struck out nine batters over seven innings this season, holding opposing batters to a .250 average this season. Steven captained his team in high school during his senior year at John Jay High School. Steven is the son of Gary and Micki Green and is majoring in theology.
Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerners commented, "The ACC is one of the most competitive conferences in the country, and having Ben return for a second season with the Westerners will help our pitching staff immensely. In addition, it is great that we have signed a local talent like Steven to add depth to our staff, and I'm looking forward to meeting him."
In addition the Danbury Westerners have announced that their annual Celebrity Breakfast to introduce the 2013 Westerners to the community will be held on Friday June 7th at 7:30AM at the Amber Room in Danbury. Former New York Met pitcher and current broadcaster Ron Darling is the keynote speaker. Reservations are required. The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles.
