April 30, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Danbury Westerners News Release

Danbury, CT- April 30, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of 2 pitchers from the University of Maryland: Jamie Pashuck and Cam Hatch.

Jamie Pashuck (Christiana, PA) is a junior at the University of Maryland in his second season with the Terps, after transferring from Hartford Community College. Jamie has made 11 appearances on the season, all in relief. Over 14.2 innings pitched this season, Jamie has allowed 20 hits and currently posts a 3.68 ERA. In his first season with Maryland, Jamie pitched 18 innings in 12 games, and struck out 17 batters. Jamie helped his high school team at Lancaster Catholic capture sectional championships from 2007-2010. Jamie is the son of Robert Pashuck and Leslee Marshall and is majoring in business.

Cam Hatch (Vernon, CT) is a redshirt freshman at Maryland. Cam has made six appearances in relief this season, going 5.2 innings in those six games. Cam has allowed five hits and one run while posting a 1.59 ERA. Cam attended Avon Old Farms, where he went 5-1 as a senior with a 2.10 ERA and helped win the Colonial League Championship in 2010. Cam is the son of Guy and Laurie Hatch.

Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerns, commented, "The Westerners are thrilled to have Jamie and Cam join us for the summer, and hopefully continuing the tradition of great ballplayers from a prestigious program as Maryland's. Our partnership with the University of Maryland starts in 2010, as we were fortunate to sign Alfredo Rodriguez, who is continuing his professional career in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system. Alfredo was followed by Jimmy Reed (DW-11), who was drafted last year, and Ben Brewster and Jake Stinnett, outstanding pitchers from our 2012 Western Division championship team. "

In addition the Danbury Westerners are currently recruiting host families for the 2013 summer. We request your willingness to welcome a young athlete into your home and provide a private bedroom for the summer (first week of June through the first week of August). Food arrangements are up to you, and most players have their own cars for transportation. For those who don't, we pair them up with those who do. The benefits of being a Host Family are simple- the players quickly become a part of your family. You'll build relationships that last a lifetime. You will also receive season tickets so you'll be able to watch collegiate level baseball all summer long, and if you have young athletes of your own, the players serve as excellent mentors. Please contact Shelley Pitser at jspitser@msn.com if you are interested or need additional information.

The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles. For information on registration, please contact Mike Malone at 203-788-3408. Sponsorships are also available.
