
Westerners Announce Signing of Two In-State Players

Danbury, CT- March 11, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Colligate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Jonathan Testani, infielder for the University of Connecticut, and Ryan Carter, pitcher for the University of Hartford, for the 2013 season.
Jonathan "Jon" Testani is currently in his sophomore season, playing for the University of Connecticut Huskies. Jon is posting great all-around numbers to start the 2013 season, with 11 RBIs (tied for the team lead) and 11 runs scored (good for 3rd on the team). Jon also ranks among the best in getting on base, posting a .453 OBP so far. Jon was named to the Big East All-Academic team during his freshman year in 2012. Jon resides in Monroe, CT and is the son of Kim and Rick Testani.
Ryan Carter is a redshirt junior in his second season of eligibility for the Hawks of Hartford University. Ryan, who was primarily a reliever in his first year at Hartford, is making the transition to starting this year. So far this season, two of Ryan's three appearances have been starts, compared to only one out of his ten appearances last season. Ryan played his high school ball at Procter High School in Vermont, where he was named the Vermont Gatorade Player-of-the-Year and Louisville Slugger Player-of-the-Year. Ryan is the son of Kristina and Glenn Carter, and is majoring in business.
Paul Schaffer, Danbury Westerners President commented, "It's great to have collegiate talent in our backyard to add to our roster. Jon Testani is off to a tremendous start this season, and Ryan Carter will add depth to our pitching staff. I look forward to meeting them this summer."
In addition the Danbury Westerners have announced that their annual Celebrity Breakfast to introduce the 2013 Westerners to the community will be held on Friday June 7th at 7:30AM at the Amber Room in Danbury. Former New York Met pitcher and current broadcaster Ron Darling is the keynote speaker. Reservations are required. The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles.
