Westerners Announce Signing of Two Connecticut Natives

Danbury, CT- June 2, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Franklin Pierce University's Rob Blanc and George Washington University's Craig Lejeune, both pitchers from Connecticut.

Rob Blanc (Sandy Hook, CT) just finished up his junior season with the Franklin Pierce Ravens. This will be Rob's third season in the NECBL and his second season with the Westerners. Rob pitched in three games for Danbury in 2011, not allowing a hit and striking out three batters. During the 2012 NECBL season, Rob pitched for the Laconia Muskrats, where he appeared in 12 games and struck out 17 batters. Rob attended Trumbull High School, where he was named to the All-State Team as a junior and named to the All-Conference Team as a senior. Rob has played club baseball for three different teams, including the Connecticut Bombers. Rob is the son of Richard and Barbara Blanc and is majoring Sports and Recreation Management.

Craig Lejeune (Bristol, CT) is a pitcher for the George Washington Colonials, and he just finished his junior season. Craig led the team in appearances with 27, which included one start. Craig posted a 3-2 record with a 3.41 ERA as well as recording a team high ten saves. Craig struck out 31 batters over 34.1 innings while only walking 8 batters. Craig attended Bristol Central High School where he was a four-year letter winner. Craig amassed numerous honors at Bristol Central, including two team MVP awards, three All-Conference selections, and an All-State selection. Craig is the son of Dave and Sheri Lejeune and is yet to declare a major.

Connecticut has developed some exceptional pitching talent recently, and I'm pleased to welcome back Rob and to welcome Craig to the Westerners. Their experience should be invaluable to our younger pitchers."

The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles.
