Danbury Westerners News Release

Danbury, CT-February, 24, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the return of 2012 All-Stars Andrew Garner and Daniel Spingola.

Andrew Garner is returning for his third and final season for the Westerners, becoming the fourth player in Westerners' history to play for the team in three consecutive seasons, joining Kevin Leighton (1998-2000), and teammates Bobby DiNardo and Brad Pippa (2006-08). Andrew is entering his junior year at Tulane University as an outfielder and pitcher. Last season, Andrew earned a place in the NECBL All-Star Game, while leading the Westerners with 11 homeruns, driving in 30 runs, and batting .253. Andrew is from Lake Jackson, Texas.

Daniel Spingola plays outfield for Georgia Tech University. As a Westerner in 2012, Daniel recorded 42 hits in 131 at bats, good for a .321 average. Daniel's stellar all around numbers in 2012 earned him a spot on the NECBL All-Star roster. Daniel was a decorated high school player, lettering in two seasons as an outfielder and a pitcher at Marist High School. Daniel resides in Roswell, GA, and intends to major in biomedical engineering.

Paul Schaffer, President of the Westerners commented, "It's a thrill to have Andrew and Daniel returning this summer for another season. Both of these ballplayers will provide strong leadership to the team, and I'm excited to watch them play for us again in 2013."
