Danbury Westerners News Release
Danbury, CT - The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce that at their 19th Annual Celebrity Breakfast on June 7th at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, CT they will be honoring Chris Arconti and Bill Pullan as the 2013 recipients of the Michael Seri Appreciation Award for perpetuating community partnerships, dedication and sportsmanship on behalf of the Danbury Westerners.
Chris Arconti has been associated with local baseball for many years. Chris was a four-year player at Western Connecticut State University ("WCSU") and was co-captain in his senior season. After graduating Chris continued playing, and still does so today. Among his many honors include 33 years as a pitcher in Housatonic Amateur Baseball League, where he led his team to seven state championships and is the career league leader in wins. Chris has also pitched for 14 years in the Greater Hartford Men's Senior Baseball League, where he is the career league leader in wins. He has pitched 20 consecutive years in the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series in Arizona, winning four World Series Championship rings, and has amassed 15 Most Valuable Player awards in various tournaments throughout his career.
Chris, however, is more than an accomplished baseball player. He has represented the Danbury area in numerous volunteer efforts, including serving on the Board of Directors for Danbury Youth Baseball and the Housatonic Valley Sports Organizing Committee. Chris has been a United Way volunteer and a member of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. Chris is also a former president of the Danbury Westerners, and currently serves as an advisor to the franchise. He is the owner-president of Deck Medics LLC/Arconti's Painting Services, and since 2010 has served as the pitching coach for Western Connecticut State University. Chris has been married to his wife Betty for 26 years and they have two sons, CJ and Nick.
Bill Pullan has been involved with Babe Ruth Baseball for over 50 years. Bill served as President of the Bethel Babe Ruth League for five years until 1978 when he was appointed District 4 Commissioner, a position he held for over 30 years. As District Commissioner, Pullan oversaw teams in 14 surrounding towns, as well as ran five Babe Ruth tournaments annually.
Bill's name is synonymous with philanthropy, and specifically, The Jimmy Fund, a cancer research for children. Since 1974 Bill has raised over 1 million dollars and as an individual has raised more money for the Jimmy Fund than the rest of the New England States- combined. He continues these efforts presently. In 1999 Bill was presented with the prestigious Tom and Jean Yawkey Award. Bill served on the Bethel Park and Recreation Commission and was honored in 2005 by the Danbury Old-Timers Association. Bill was admitted into the Babe Ruth International Hall of Fame in 2010, and has been involved with the Danbury Westerners since their inception in 1995, of which he currently serves on the team's Board of Directors.
Past recipients of the Michael Seri award include Mr. Seri (2009), Bart Busterna (2010), Mary Ann Frede (2010), Richard Reimold (2011), Charlie Coakley (2012) and Gene Eriquez (2012)
