Western New York Flash Acquire Midfielder Ashley Nick from Houston Dash

ELMA, N.Y. (Monday, May 11, 2015) - The Western New York Flash has acquired midfielder Ashley Nick from the Houston Dash in exchange for defender Toni Pressley, it was announced today.
"We are very pleased to add Ashley Nick as she gives us another great option in the midfield, an area of need for us, and helps improve our team," said Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines. "As a defensive midfielder, Ashley will also give us the ability to play Becky Edwards perhaps a little bit higher. She is a top character and I look forward to working with her."
Nick, 27, has appeared in three matches for the Dash this season, starting in two. In her first two NWSL seasons, 2013 and 2014, Nick was a member of Sky Blue FC where she appeared in a total of 25 regular-season matches and Sky Blue's semifinal game against the Flash in 2013.
A member of the University of Southern California's 2007 championship-winning team, Nick spent the past two NWSL offseasons overseas, first playing with Russia's FC Zorky Krasnagork in 2013 then Cyprus' Apollon Limossal in 2014. She featured in the UEFA Women's Champion's League with both teams.
Prior to joining the NWSL in 2013, Nick won the W-League Championship with Pali Blues and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The Monrovia, Calif. native also has experience with the U17, U20 and U23 U.S. Women's National Teams.
"I want to thank Toni for her effort while she was here," add Lines. "We feel she will have a better opportunity to play through this trade and wish her all the best in Houston."
The Flash return to action on Thursday night, when it travels to face FC Kansas City at Swope Soccer Village at 8:00 p.m. ET. Western New York next appears in Rochester on May 23 to host the Washington Spirit at 7:00 p.m.
