Westchester Flames Hold Benefit for 2 Year Old

May 7, 2003 - USL Second Division (USL-2)
Westchester Flames News Release

The Westchester Flames will host a "Save a Life Day" for a two-year-old boy with a malignant brain tumor.

The match will take place against the New Hampshire Phantoms in a Premier Development League match at City Park Stadium in New Rochelle at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The proceeds from this game will go to the family of two-year old Anastasios Tzatzos, who has a malignant brain tumor. The only child of Makis and Eleni Tzatzos, Anastasios was diagnosed with and had surgery on the tumor in October, 2002 while still in Greece. The surgery was partially successful, but additional treatment was necessary.

Makis, who played professional soccer in Greece, gave up everything to come to the United States for additional treatment for his son. The family has no insurance and is currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House while Anastasios is being treated at NY University Medical Hospital.

According to a team spokesperson, "Anastasios has a very special place in the heart of the Flames’ family as several members of the staff and team are originally from Greece."

Tickets for this match can be purchased at the gate or by calling the Flames office at 888-W-FLAMES (935-2637). For those unable to attend the game, donations can be made directly to:

Atlantic Bank, 29-10 Ditmars Blvd., Astoria, N.Y. 11103, Account Number: 410019809 or Atlantic Bank, 265 North Broadway, Hicksville, N.Y. 11801, Account Number: 410019809.
