Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME - Familiar local faces will be a consistent theme for the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide this summer. For the second straight week, the Tide have announced the return of a Maine native to their roster. This week, the Raging Tide are pleased to announce the return of Westbrook native and Cheverus standout, Joey Royer, for this third season with the Tide.

Royer, a 6'3" left handed pitcher, is heading into his junior year at the University of New Haven. Over his first two years at the university, he's compiled a 7-5 record with 64 strikeouts over 27 appearances. During his freshman season he threw a complete game, three-hit shutout at Pace in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. In his sophomore season he matched his career-high with nine strikeouts vs. Adelphi. In each of his first two seasons he was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

During his high school days, the Westbrook native played just up the road from Old Orchard Beach for Cheverus. Not only was Royer a four-year honor student off the field, but he was also a force on the diamond. He was named to the All-Rookie pitching team and was also part of the Cheverus team that won the Maine State Championship.

Last season for the Raging Tide, Royer posted a 2-3 record over 9 appearances (8 starts), 29 strikeouts and 4.56 ERA. The Tide are glad to have his experience and leadership back in the clubhouse as they look to build off of their semifinals appearance during the 2013 FCBL season.
