West Michigan Thunderhawks To Hold Final Open Try-Out

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The West Michigan ThunderHawks of the Indoor Football League will conduct their final open try-out on Sunday, January 31st at the MVP Sports Spot, 3701 32nd St. SE, in Kentwood. Registration will begin at 6:00 a.m. for the 7 - 9 a.m. workout.

The ThunderHawks will be competing in the nationally-based IFL, featuring 25 teams from 16 different states including Texas, New York and Alaska. The league features 8-on-8 professional indoor football with a 50-yard field and plenty of hard-hitting, in-your-face action.

Running prospective players through the paces will be new ThunderHawks head coach Rod Miller. The North Omaha, Nebraska native formerly served as the football operations manager and assistant coach of the AFL's Grand Rapids Rampage and has logged ten years of indoor coaching experience.

Miller and his assistants will test attendees in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard short shuttle, L-drill, standing broad jump and position-specific drills during the two hour session. All positions except kickers are encouraged to try-out for the team which recently relocated to Grand Rapids after spending three years in nearby Muskegon. Players who make the cut will be joining those who have already signed contracts at the team's official training camp which opens February 12th.

West Michigan will play its seven regular season home games at the DeltaPlex Arena, 2500 Turner Ave. NW in Grand Rapids beginning on February 26th when they host Atlantic East Division foe Maryland. Individual tickets for all ThunderHawks home games are now available through the team's website and at the DeltaPlex Arena box office. Season tickets can be purchased by calling 616-364-9000.
