San Angelo Saints News Release

San Angelo, TX—Saints fans only have eight days until the official start of the 2004-05 season, but they get their first taste this Friday when the Saints face division rivals, the Odessa Jackalopes, in an exhibition game at the newly dubbed Saints "Sanctuary."

Saints fans were polled during the 2004 off-season to find the best and most creative nickname for the San Angelo Coliseum. "The Sanctuary" received an overwhelming majority of votes; now hockey fans in San Angelo can get ready for the puck to drop in the Saints "Sanctuary!"

The exhibition game Friday will feature several new faces, as well as many familiar skaters for the Saints. Fans can expect strong defensive play from newcomer Ryan Branham out of Lake Superior State University and offensive power from center Bryan Lachapelle and right-winger Bret DeCecco. An unbeatable work ethic paired with offensive and defensive power, David Silverstone is sure to become a fan favorite in San Angelo. The new man between the pipes, Scott Murray, has also made an impression on Saints Head Coach Ray Edwards.

"Scott (Murray) is a little unorthodox. He has a very different style, but he stops the puck. He takes care of the bottom of the net really well and works hard. He is a great guy for the Saints to have."

Edwards will use performance during training camp as well as pre-season play this weekend as tools to determine the final roster of 18 players, which must be submitted no later than Thursday, October 21st. The roster must consist of at least five rookie/developmental players and no more than four veteran classified players.

"The jury is still out," said Edwards. "We will start making decisions Sunday, and there will be additions and subtractions as needed throughout the season. We are a young team this year, but they have the skill and hunger needed to win."

In other news, Saints fans can get their picture with the entire team on Tuesday, October 26th from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at The Sanctuary. Individual game tickets are on sale now for the 2004-05 season. The Saints will offer a youth price of $7 for anyone 10 years and younger, while all youth 2 and under get in free.
